Recently, Israel basketball legend Tal Brody posted a picture of two Israeli basketball players implying they were the future; Ben Saraf and Omer Mayer. Who are these two players and why is Brody so high on them?
The future of Israeli basketball is bright. Omri Casspi and now Deni Avdija have proven that Israeli basketball can translate to the NBA. Besides Casspi and Avdija, Gal Mekel’s had a short lived stint and others like Lior Eliyahu and Shawn Dawson never saw the NBA court outside of summer league. Yam Madar was drafted the same year as Deni but has yet to compete for the Celtics. Yuval Zoosman went undrafted as did Noam Dovrat this year.
Next up we turn our eyes to Saraf and Mayer. Both players are on the Israel U18 team. Saraf is a 16 year old, 6’5 guard and played in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. Meanwhile Mayer, also 16, is a 6’2 guard who also impressed at the Adidas tournament. Keep your eyes on both!
