Mount Rushmore Series: Tennis

Like basketball this Mount Rushmore has had equal impact of males and females. Julie Heldman holds the first face. I am a bit bias knowing how great of a person she is but she also meant so much to the sport of tennis. Heldman was a part of the original 9 alongside Billie Jean King once ranked #2 in the US. Paul Goldstein highest ranking was #40 and battled the likes of Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. Tom Okker reached a #3 world ranking including a run to the 1968 US Open Finals. Shahar Pe’er was once ranked #14. She has set the bar high for Israeli tennis players going forward.

Others considered (and their highest ranking) include Wayne Odesnik (#77), Andy Ram (#5 Doubles), Diego Schwartzman (#11), Dudi Sela (#29), and Elina Svitolina (#3). It is very likely that Svitolina and Schwartzman will find themselves on the Mount Rushmore in the near future.
