10. Ryan Lavarnway Retires – While Lavarnway does not notable MLB accomplishment his impact on Jewish baseball, through Team Israel and his story is incredibly noteworthy. He will be missed on the field.
9. Mitzvah Mania – We are biased on this because we put on the show but April 2nd in Los Angeles hosted the first ever fully Jewish wrestling show at Temple Beth Am. Main evented by Colt Cabana and QT Marshall the card was stacked and the event was the 1st celebration of Jews in wrestling.
8. Sue Bird to Abby Meyers – Sue Bird had her number retired around the same time as the arrival of Abby Meyers to the WNBA. Here is hoping Meyers can take the torch and run with it. Mazel Tov to Bird on a first ballot Hall of Fame career.
7. Gelof Brothers – Brothers, Zack and Jake, have begun to shine. Jake smashed HRs in the NCAA leading to a high MLB selection. Meanwhile, Zack starred for the As crushing 14 HRs while batting .267 in his rookie season.
6. Winners – Recognizing stars from all sports; Jon Scheyer & Duke won the ACC, Max Homa reached #5 in the PGA, and Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been AEW Champion for over 1 full year.
5. Hughes Brothers – All 3, Jack, Quinn and Luke, played NHL Hockey in 2023. The three highly touted brothers are rising the ranks in the NHL as elite players. Jack and Quinn are already amongst the best.
4. Kremer Starts Playoff Game – While the results did not go as planned, Dean Kremer became the first Israeli to start a playoff game. Kremer didn’t last long in his start for the Orioles but it will go down in history!
3. Sabonis Converting – NBA All Start Domantas Sabonis is nearly done converting to Judaism. Sabonis will join Dolph Schayes, Amare Stoudemire and others on the list of Jewish NBAers.
2. Israel Finishes 3rd in Soccer – Israel finished 3rd in the U20 World Cup. While this might not seem like a huge feat, it capped of an unlikely run in their first appearance. Soccer is Israelis biggest sport though it has little international exposure. This is a bright sign for its future in the game.
1. Ian Kinsler Represents Israel – Former Texas Ranger Ian Kinsler wear Team Israel baseball jersey to throw out the first pitch of Game 3 of the ALCS. Kinsler, who has played and coached for Team Israel Baseball, wore the jersey only days after the war broke out. It was a goosebumps moment for Jews everywhere.
